President and CEO, Julien G. Patterson, Presented 2007 Virginia Leader Award from LEAD VIRGINIA November 16, 2007

LEAD VIRGINIA connects diverse leaders to promote a statewide perspective about the quality of life in the Commonwealth. Participants in this educational forum grapple with challenges, opportunities and major issues facing the Commonwealth. Mr. Julien G. Patterson, President and CEO, OMNIPLEX World Services Corporation, was awarded the Virginia Leader Award. This award is presented to the alumnus or alumna who best represents the ideals of LEAD VIRGINIA. The recipient demonstrates an ongoing commitment to gaining deeper insights into complex statewide issues, building social capital and creating momentum for positive change for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The recipient is dedicated to pursuing the mission of LEAD VIRGINIA and provides a role model for effective civic engagement. Patterson noted, "I am truly honored to be presented with this prestigious award; it is a great privilege to be a part of such a fine organization as LEAD VIRGINIA."
"As the 2007 recipient of the Virginia Leader Award, Julien Patterson is a successful entrepreneur, an outstanding example of civic and community trusteeship, and an example for other leaders to follow," noted Sandy Fitz-Hugh, chairman of the LEAD VIRGINIA’s Board of Directors. "He is the Founder of his own company, recognized as a highly successful entrepreneur throughout his region and the state as being among an elite group of entrepreneurs whose vision, innovation and hard work have established and sustained successful growing businesses."
Beyond his business success, this LEAD VIRGINIA alumnus gives back to his community in ways that creates positive change for others. His Herculean commitment to public service is manifested in many ways, including his appointment by the Governor to the Virginia Health and Human Services Reform Committee. He chairs the Public Safety Foundation, an organization that offers assistance to families of Virginia public safety officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. He believes in providing opportunities for young people and serves on the Boards of the Boys and Girls Club of the Northern Neck and the Presidential Classroom, an organization that builds understanding of the political process and opportunities to engage among high school students. Finally, he serves as the first African American chairman of the state’s most prestigious business organization in its 83-year history, the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
This LEAD VIRGINIA alumnus has repeatedly demonstrated his vision and innovation, in growing his company and his community, and has endured the diverse challenges of start up and survival and ultimate success that entrepreneurs encounter. His persistence and deep faith have seen him through times of hardship and brought him to the place he is today, a successful business owner, community trustee, and corporate leader who engages his company, his wisdom and his heart in giving back to the community.
