President and CEO, Julien G. Patterson, Speaks at the Virginia Community Action Partnership June Luncheon June 14, 2007

On June 14, 2007, Mr. Julien G. Patterson, President and CEO, OMNIPLEX World Services Corporation, was the Keynote Speaker at the Virginia Community Action Partnership June luncheon, held in Virginia Beach, VA, at the Sheraton Oceanfront Resort Hotel.
Mr. Patterson spoke to an audience of over 125 executive directors who lead community action initiatives in various counties throughout the Commonwealth. He cited the mission and values of effective community action and then discussed the challenge of building, nurturing and developing an environment of creative collaborative solutions to address local and regional issues. In particular, Mr. Patterson addressed issues of economic disparity, workforce development, workforce housing, and affordable housing. He emphasized that creative collaborative solutions are within reach of Virginia’s leaders, business community, community service groups, and social service entities. In his speech, he amplified an important thought set forth by Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell, “The service that we render to others is really the rent we pay for your room on this earth. Our purpose in this world is not to have and to hold, but to give and to serve.” This, Mr. Patterson said, is a promise of hope and a word of encouragement to all who look beyond themselves to the needs of others. Beyond Mr. Patterson's career of service with the Central Intelligence Agency, he has been intimately involved with a wide variety of nonprofits and community service groups consistent with his address to the Virginia Community Action Partnership.
