11th annual Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Dinner
February 26, 2007

OMNIPLEX World Services Corporation's President and CEO, Julien G. Patterson, participates in 11th annual Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Dinner

On February 23, 2007, Mr. Julien G. Patterson, President and CEO, OMNIPLEX World Services Corporation, served as the Guest Speaker at the Eleventh Annual Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Dinner, held in Kilmarnock, VA at the Indian Creek County Club.

Mr. Patterson discussed the difficulties of grasping the threat of terrorism as a reality in America and how this, the Global War of Terrorism and other American policy sidebar influences on world opinion may affect the manner in which Rotary Clubs focus how it is that they serve their communities worldwide. Mr. Patterson also suggested that perhaps it is important for organizations such as the Rotary, to provide a public service outreach to educate and inform its constituent membership. In his speech, Mr. Patterson built upon the mission idea of the Rotary founder Paul Harris and used the Greek word "Diakonos" which means "to minister" or "to help," as a pivot point to describe what he felt may have been his intent in 1905, when he met with three friends to determine how best the organization could support the needs of the community and address its relevance to the wider world community. Mr. Patterson discussed how Rotary is not afraid to adapt and respond, to embrace different cultures, and to hold firm to its core principles of honesty, tolerance, and unselfishness. He quoted Rotary International's current President, Mr. William B. Boyd, to "look ahead to new responsibilities, new challenges, and new opportunities."

Today, the Rotary is a worldwide organization with over 1.2 Million members engaged in projects that feed the hungry, clothe the needy, educate the less fortunate, and provide medical aid to the sick. In a fast-paced world environment where it is easy for people to become disconnected from those around them, the Rotary organization seeks to provide a positive forum for the basic wholesome values of fellowship, friendship, and community service.

"Rotary is a worldwide, continuing story about successful men and women committed to promoting the good foundational values of the Rotary organization. I believe that they are successful because they are rich in the things that have a relevant personal meaning, a service commitment and a strong friendship component," Mr. Patterson said. He challenged the Rotarians to continue their leadership commitment with a clear vision and a clear focus as they face new world challenges in a complex world environment.

The dinner was attended by Rotarians and guests from all over Virginia's Northern Neck including Gloucester, Gloucester Point, Kilmarnock-Irvington-White Stone, Mathews, Middlesex, Northern Neck, Tappahannock, Warsaw, and West Point.

Mr. Patterson's security career began with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during which time he designed a wide variety of comprehensive and specialized security training programs. Serving 10 years with the CIA, he was responsible for leading the CIA's worldwide Mobile Training Teams (MTT).
