Contribution to the Boys & Girls Club of Washington-Marshall Heights Bison Football Team November 30, 2006
OMNIPLEX World Services Corporation made a monetary contribution to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington, DC, to assist them in raising $30,000 to send the Marshall Heights Bisons to the Pop Warner National Football Championship at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Marshall Heights is undefeated and has allowed only one touchdown all season. The team is made up of boys ranging in age from 13 to 15 years old. They won the District championship and went on to take the Eastern Regional title, earning them a spot in the National Championship at Disney World.
The League Commissioner, Mr. Michael Williams, who is with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington stated that the organization does not have the estimated $30,000 it would take to transport 28 players and their coaches to Florida, and house and feed them for four days if they continue to win.
NBC Channel 4 aired the story of the local team's dilemma and a flood of donations poured in to the Boys & Girls Club. Late Tuesday night they received a $30,000 dollar donation from the Fannie Mae Corporation, the number #1 U.S. buyer of home mortgages.
Mr. Williams of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington released the following statement, "Just goes to show you how big a heart this community has during these tough times, holiday times, and money being tight and the like, that these small donors, as well as this major donor, was able to come forward and make the contribution so these young men can have the lifetime experience and go to Disney to compete for a national championship," Williams said.
If the team keeps winning, the final game will be featured on national television. OMNIPLEX is proud to be able to make a contribution and assist these young men to compete for the Pop Warner National Football Championship.
